Hiking Trails
Brunnsbacka Trail - 7 km
The trail is about 7 km long and passes by the local heritage park in Unnaryd and through Ödegärdet nature reserve. It also takes you around Lake Kroksjön and past the historic Brunnsbacka sawmill, a preserved industrial heritage building with saw, mill and wood planer.
Skärshults Trail - 12 km
The 12 km trail offers a fantastic experience between Lilla and Stora Skärshultssjön. Along the route, you’ll find numbered sites with information about the area’s nature and cultural history. The forest, once a refuge for bandits and farmers during troubled times, is rich in local lore. Stay alert—legendary creatures like elves, trolls, and the seductive Näcken are said to inhabit these woods.
Femsjö Trail - 4 km
The Femsjö area offers a 4 km Yellow Trail with shorter Blue and Red loops, starting at the Femsjö School near an info building with barbecue and toilets. Femsjö, once a borderland between Sweden and Denmark, is rich in nature, wildlife, and history. The region’s geology, plant life, and Elias Fries' mycology work are highlighted, including the Fries Museum and medieval church.
Jälluntofta Trail - 12 km
The trail is 12 km long and passes through beautiful and varied countryside. The start and car park is at Chalanderska museet in Jälluntofta. The trail is marked with signs and orange markings. There are five rest areas along the trail, one of them with a wind shelter, barbecue area and toilet.
Länsmans Trail - 5.3 km
The 5.3 km trail in Långaryd takes you through scenic village roads, historic farms, legendary sites, and cottage ruins. Starting in Höljeryd or Ekhult, the trail mostly follows roads with a detour to the northeast. Explore Långaryd’s picturesque cultural landscape, blending nature and history for a peaceful, scenic experience.
Skärshult Short Trail - 5.8 km
This 5.8 km hike around Lake Stora Skärshultssjön offers stunning views from higher ridges. The trail has some challenging sections with boardwalks, narrow paths, and roots. A freshwater swimming area with a sandy beach and dock is accessible. Nearby, there's a campsite with cabins for rent, ideal for overnight stays.
Hallandsleden - The Trail of Halland
Långesjön – Rydöbruk, Hallandsleden - 18 km
Långesjön–Rydöbruk is an 18 km section of the Hallandsleden Trail where you’ll hike through forests, open fields, and river valleys with views of Lake Långesjön and the Kilan and Nissan rivers. Along the way, you'll pass historical landmarks, wildlife, and remnants of old industries. A scenic campsite with a wind shelter, fireplace, and dry toilet is located at Långesjön.
Rydöbruk - Kvarnforsen, Hallandsleden - 11 km
The Rydöbruk - Kvarnforsen section of the Hallandsleden Trail is an 11 km hike that starts at the dramatic Knystaforsen waterfall, once used to power local industry. As you hike, you'll enjoy lake views, coniferous forests, and marshes. Along the way, you’ll find two idyllic campsites with wind shelters, fireplaces, and dry toilets, combining nature with industrial history.
Kvarnforsen - Gyltige, Hallandsleden - 23 km
The 23 km trail from Kvarnforsen to Gyltige starts at the Kvarnforsen shelter. You'll follow a road along Baggåsen Peak, 50 meters above the landscape, before heading into a stunning area of lakes, forests, and marshes, rich in wildlife and birds. The final stretch takes you along the Fylleån River valley to a beautiful campsite with shelter at Gyltige.
Ätran - Långesjön, Hallandsleden
The Ätran - Långesjön Trail features uneven terrain with elevation changes, obstacles like stones, roots, and low stiles, and boardwalks. Shelters at Eseredssjön and Långesjön camps offer accommodations for 4–6 adults, with fireplaces, dry toilets, and rubbish bins. The trail alternates between countryside and forest, passing small lakes.
Hallandsleden - 453 km
If you're up for a longer adventure and curious about the rest of Halland, check out Hallandsleden, which includes 4 subtrails, 29 sections, and stretches 453 km. It connects with Skåneleden in the south and Bohusleden in the north. You can choose between an easterly or westerly section, both meeting in Åkulla and Gyltige. Shorter Hikes
Mårås Hike - 2.3 km
The 2.3 km trail through Mårås Nature Reserve offers a peaceful hike through ancient, untouched beech forests. The trail takes you past the remains of the oldest beech tree in the Nordic countries, once 400 years old. Enjoy the tranquility of the forest, with rest areas along the way. In the southern part of the reserve, you can visit the peninsula by Jansberg Lake, where you can swim, relax, or fish.
Nässja Hike - 3 km
The Nässja hike is a 3-kilometer trail through diverse nature, starting at Nässja Point and passing through pastures, with a lakeshore barbecue area along the way. The trail continues south along the water to Löjerudd, then east and north, returning to the parking area. The well-maintained cultural landscape is scenic, and the trail includes a swimming area and canoe rest area with shelters and a barbecue spot.
Ödegärdets Hike - 2 km
The nature trail in the reserve, about 2 km long, provides signs that explain both natural phenomena and cultural history. The terrain is varied, with rocky, sloping ground, and offers different route options. Oak posts with metal ermine plaques mark the path. The area, once farmed until the early 1500s, later became meadow and pasture before being gradually reclaimed by the forest.
Skubbhults Hike - 2 km
The 2 km hike in Skubbhult takes you through an ancient beech forest, rich with mosses and lichens, beside the scenic Lake Mellan-Färgen. You'll pass historic stone cairns from the Iron Age and medieval times. The trail offers a peaceful walk through a gently sloping landscape, with rare flora like lungwort and coral lichen on old trees.
Remember before hiking
- Wear comfortable, properly broken-in shoes.
- Remember the weather can change – dress preferably in layers and have rain gear and warmer clothes at hand.
- Always have something to drink with you. Drink often, small amounts at a time.
- Wandering with a staff can make things much easier, especially downhill slopes, when the staff can be used to support your knees and joints.
- Do not forget that the surface is often slippery.
- Bring only equipment that you will be using. The backpack should not weigh more than 10% of your own body weight.
